An Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter crashed last night while returning back to base from a patient transport. N114AE, a Bell 206L-1 based in Manchester, was returning from a hospital in London, KY when the helicopter crashed into an elementary school parking lot. The accident location was only about 500 feet away from the base helipad. According to the AP, witnesses reported dense fog at the time of the crash.

The 11:16 p.m. crash killed all three crew members. They have been identified as 40 year old flight medic Herman “Lee” Dobbs, 28 year old flight nurse Jesse Jones and 61 year old pilot Eddie Sizemore.

AEL has released the following statement:

“We are devastated at the loss of these crew members who we consider family. We have no details regarding the cause of the accident but will be working with the NTSB in coming days as they conduct their investigation. We thank you all for your messages of support. Please keep these crew members’ family and friends and the AEL family in your thoughts and prayers.”
